Trinidad: April 2004

Our first trip to South America and what a trip it was. Highlights included Scarlet Ibis, Bearded Bellbird, Swallow-Tanager, Barred Antshrike, Pearl Kite and the endangered Trinidad Piping Guan. Our stay at the world famous Asa Wright Centre produced stunning hummingbirds such as Tufted Coquette, White-necked Jacobin and the glittering Ruby-Topaz each day before breakfast! The main highlight of the trip was not a bird at all, it was a 6-foot long Giant Leatherback Turtle coming ashore to lay her eggs on a secluded beach, what a sight!
